Are Earth Worms Good?

Hello everybody,

A few weeks ago I started noticing that my neatly organized pebbles in my bonsai pot were covered with small mounds of dirt (as can be seen in one of the pictures). I suspected worm because the mounds looked exactly like the mounds often seen in lawns. So I leveled the small mounds to see if they would come back. The next day I could see a few new mounds. I tried to read about worms in bonsai pots but couldn’t find a good answer whether they are good or not. I’ve always heard that earth worms are doing a good job with roots and dirt. Just to get a good picture of the critter creating the mounds I thought I’d submerge my bonsai in water until the critter couldn’t take it anymore. After about 1 hour I saw two worms struggling to make up their mind to either stay or leave. Well, I pull both of them out and took a picture for everybody to enjoy. (Sorry about the background chosen)

Now to my question. Are these tiny worms good or bad for a bonsai tree?

Thanks you,
Robin
