Long Time No Post..ficus Question

hehe, t'has been almost 6 months sence i have poasted here been EXTREAMLY busey with a huge school load, PLUS just started working in august.. BUT I HAVENT FORGOT ABOUT YA!! ok. i got a small ficus, bout 5 inches tall.. trunk base about an inch wide.. and tapers dramaticly toward the top.. at tyhe base there is a big.. "root?" coming out bout the size of my middle finget sticking straight out, and ending as a nub.. how could i go about cutting it off without leaving a big scar, and without hurting the tree.. a club member suggester elmers glue.. but that seems funny to me (although she is very knowlegible) any suggestions? it is a cute tree, and think within 3 years or so, it will even make a fine show tree
