"V" Chop This Tree? Oak?
Greetings and Happy New Year,
Can you identify this trunk? I live in zone 7b and was considering chopping this down to see what happens.
Can you provide the genus and species?
The 3 images show from the base of trunk upwards. The trunk is 8" in diameter just above the soil line.
How high up the trunk should I create my "V" cut? My idea is to create the chop and nurture the growth that emerges from the cut and in time hopefully create a broom style. My sense is 2/3 the final height of the tree is where I should create the "V" chop. Is this correct? After I nurture the new growth ( 1-2 seasons?) I may start planning to dig this monster out of the ground. Suggestions on a 3-5 year plan would be appreciated.
The plant presently in the ground. There is no telling about the root structure, however I see roots on the surface of the ground growing away from the cement noted in the images.
Just a note on the rest of the tree. It has been chopped (horizontally) in the past in an effort to avoid power lines. There is growth that is living at this chop site. My plan is to chop it lower and hope it creates growth suitable for a broom style tree.
Thank you for your time and patience. I will be anxiously awaiting your thoughts and comments. Now the images. I apologize again for the images. I have to crop these so much who knows what these look like.
