I imagine it will work if you know the clay and quality of the potter. But, like with trees, I find the three dimensions required, especially since I'm generally looking for display pots. I like to see them live with the tree unless I know the potter's work very well. The pot is like the frame on a picture and I don't buy frames on the web either because I'm going for composition. But ther are some very good potters who sell their work online. Sara Raynor, for one. And our own Dale (Joe Cocker) Cochoy!
