Adam,

You will need the humidity to high for that aerial root to continue growth. What I have done in the past is slit a straw (drinking) and "aimed" the aerial roots where I wanted them. Once they anchor into the soil, you can easily remove the straw. To aide in gaining more aerial roots, I have put ficus and scheffs into large clear plastic bags for a couple weeks. Make sure you mist them and keep the soil damp. Check for fungus and bugs as well.

Repot in February as a safe bet. Sap in Ficus should be running by then.
