I personally knew a bonsai enthusiast who fertilized her trees with birth control pills. And apparently,
she wasn't the only one. I don't know how much it actually did for the plants' growth, but they almost never got pregnant.
There are a lot of whacko ideas out there, and with bonsai, it's no barrier to entry.
