I was there Friday,
had a lot of fun attending Walter's presentation on native Californian/etc. trees. He talked about how these trees inspire him in the creation of his "infamous" naturalistic style trees.
In his presentation he showed us slides of beautiful old trees in nature. Then, using virtuals, placed them into bonsai pots.
It was quite a trip, very inspiring. I happen to share his philosophy. He is a good speaker, very animated and passionate.
I've also exchanged a few words with him.
Afterwards, I talked to a few japanese friends attending his presentation. They are having a helluva hard time in trying to accept his views. They belong to the old japanese school and nothing will change that, not even a gun in their face. I also asked Boon about his thoughts on Walter, he said he likes Shinji Suzuki better. No surprise there.
So, Walter has his work cut out for him for the next decade.
I spent a few hundred dollars on a couple of fabulous collected redwoods from MENDOCINO BONSAI. I couldn't belive the quality of material these quys have. I am glad I took the trouble of driving 4 hours to Fresno.
