Tom, my field guide shows Choke Cherry as a separate species (P. virginiana) from Black Cherry (P. serotina) and that's how I remember it from many, many years ago from my Dendrology class at dear old Rutgers. However, I do believe they are rather similar and don't doubt they'd be pretty similar subjects for Bonsai. I sure like what you're doing with yours. Sounds like you, too, think they're worth a shot. I'd say one successful example counts more than a hundred nay sayers.
