Group Planting On Slate With Akada - How Do You Do That?

This year, after 25 years, I've finally started using Akadama when repotting. It's gone reasonably well so far.

Now, next spring I plan to create a group planting (Common Elms) and I'm thinking of using a piece of slate (which I haven't found yet, but I'll get a piece in England).

My question is - what's the procedure for planting with akadama on a stone slab/slate sheet?

Are there special precautions for preventing the Akadama from simply "rolling off"?

Jerry
