You'd better wait till spring. Collect it before the leaves come out.
One is nice, but ten are better - the more you have the less you'll worry when the occasional one dies :-)
When I collect seedlings, and I do it every year, I typically collect 20-50 at a time. You'll find that the weak ones die almost immediately, that some don't have good branching, etc etc. You might get ten reasonable trees from 30.
So, you have your assignment. More is better.
