Obviously there is additional detail wiring that I could do, but for the time being I don't want to take any chances of sapping the tree's strength on the critical boughs. I'll hold off for at least a year, I think. Plenty of time for that, given the slow growth of these old mountain hemlocks.
There's also plenty of carving to do down at that base, to get an old, twisted, rotted out look. I'll take those long jin back on the bottom left of the trunk, as well.
All in all, the workshop with Colin it was one of my most enjoyable experiences with bonsai. I was left with a deep respect for his design ability, and also with a great admiration for him as a teacher. He made the workshop enjoyable and educational and productive for all of us. If you ever get a chance to work with him, I recommend it highly.
With my best regards,
Carl
