I agree with living art DBZ UGh!

Must be a popular thing to do this growing bed thing i'm doing the same and planted in april 2003! with some very similar stuff, I've decideed not to cut back and allow unrestricted growth for another year, however, that is because i'm not too worried about taper as they are going to become short broom style trees and the taper required was already present when i planted and i just want thickness. So might be worth considering what styles you envisage for the trees in the long run.
