Re: My first two junipers....

Hi Jules, Lesson no. 1. One gallon stock will only make a plant 5" high. Lesson no. 2. You have broken lesson no. 1. You have some plants that have some real potential. I could not get a real sense out of plant no. 1, and would probably not do anything more with it till it grows out some. Now, plant no.2 is pretty good as far as one gallon material goes. I think you can see by my virtual where I pruned out the top at the natural apex for the tree. Of course this is just my opinion. If you just take your finger and block out the top two branches you will see what I mean. One thing you can do is get yourself 2 or 3 or 5 more of these junipers and think about a rustic windswept type forest planting. This is what I am going to do next spring. I showed the pic of my juniper collection that has been accumulating in my backyard. This is mostly one gallon stock. The name of the post is "five for the future" and it is in the general thread I think. Probably a page or two back. Enjoy, Bonsaial
