HI Matt,

Thanks for replying to this and the oak posting that I made.

I am relucant to defoliate the maple as I think we will have a frost in the time scale you have outlined. I also want to show it in a novice catagory at a show comoing up (mid september). However, once the leaves fall in a couple of months time i will repost so you can see the branch structure.

Will I be able to achieve back budding and inner branching by hard prunning just before the leafs come out in the spring (usually feb with this treee, quite early)?

Same thing with the oak really. We're likely to have a frost and its just got over a bout of mildew, but again I will post in the autumn when the leaves fall. I think there could be a problem with the branching from what i no of it, but we'll see. Should have posted both earlier but only just got digi camera.
