That's a really neat tree. If you're a beginner, I'd say you have the touch. I think it's fine just as it is. Put some lime sulfur on the jin, (first wet the jin with water and then paint the lime sulfur onto it...it'll look yellow at first, but tomorrow morning it'll be fairly white) and that will preserve the jin. It hardens the wood and prevents rot. There are other products you can use too.....like wood hardeners, but most people have lime sulfur to use as a dormant spray in the spring..
The pot is appropriate for your tree. I'd say if you like it as it is, just let it.....and as it matures, you'll like it even more. As the foliage fills in, pinch it to keep it looking like horizontal clouds. Don't let the foliage clusters gather and become big masses.
