Tony, thanks for your reply. I'm surprized you showed so much patience with my rather petulant and intemperate comments. You make some great points. Perhaps more of value does come with the practice of bonsai in the West than I was thinking last night in my rather depressed mood. I want to think some more about what you've said.
One of my few discontents with this forum is that we never hear from Japanese enthusiasts, from either Japan or from other countries where they've immigrated. I would sure like to hear what they might say about some of the broader issues we explore as well as the more specific, techniques oriented issues. I have a feeling we might get some very interesting, even unexpected inputs from them. Most of the Japanese guys (and gals) that I have known in the US were uniquely charming and interesting people. Wonder what it would take to attract a few of them here?
