i totally agree with you matt. Also Jose, the tree looks quite young still and if u really wanted to develop a thicker foliage system u could take a risk and cut the tree back hard, as the internodal areas(ie the space between buds/leaf groups) look quite long. By cutting back you would promote more growth that u could be monitored and kept lush and thick by selective pruning and trimming. Remember, bonsai are a continuing work, you dont necessarily get results straight away. Sometimes you have to wait before the true form begins to shine through. But as always, everyones opinions differ and whatever decision you make, make sure you like what you've done, otherwise you will lose interest in your tree.
