This contest was great fun, and I learned a heck of a lot by being involved. I learned both from trying to style a tree of my own, and from observing the other entries, seeing what worked and what didn't and what approaches folks saw fit to take.
So while I don't feel that anyone has an obligation to enter a tree, while I passionately believe that one can legitimately have strong opinions about art without a whit of talent at producing that art (e.g. me, with classical music) , and while I can see why some would feel that the entire concept of $20 instant bonsai was not "the place they were at" at present, I agree with carmi in that the contest would have been even more fun if more people had entered and if more people had voted. There are at least a dozen regular posters here who could style circles around me, and I would have loved to have seen their entries. It's fine that they didn't enter, but it certainly would have been more fun if they had. That simple.
Lighten up, Fred! No one is picking on you.
