Hokidachi Development Question?
In John Naka's "Bonsai Techniques 1" pg. 137... he talks about developing a hokidachi (broomstyle) tree. I have been thinking about trying this with a nice fat trunk, either some sort of an elm or Zelkova Serrata.
My question is, have any of you out there in bonsai land tried this? If so, with what degree of success or failure? What other methods are there of achieving the same result? Since John Naka wrote that book some time ago... is there anything that anyone would add to that or take away from it that they've found works better?
