do I ever agree with you! I have several junipers that I "made" sick...let them get root rot. I don't know if they will ever recover. The only suggestion I would make is to take it out of the pot immediately, and without disturbing the roots put it in a growing box or very large plastic pot or even in the yard. Give it maximum chance to develop roots and get a lot of moisture and nutrients. You are probably going to have to nurse it back to health, hope it eventually starts throwing out new buds so you can prune it back.

Great tree and certainly worth trying to save.
