I agree with David - the taper is good to the chop on the first virtual. Besides - you can always chop lower later on depending on where you get buds popping. NOt sure about the "guy thing" - I would just try to keep as much of this tree as possible in the initial styling. I really like Carl's virtual - but it may not work if you are looking for a more informal style. As a shohin fan - I really liked it.
