Ficus Question

I have a question about Ficus. I am attempting to propagate a Ficus. I'm thinking that Ficus is not a deciduous tree as when I moved to California in January, the Ficus here had leaves, while the other deciduous trees had dropped theirs.

My question is, if my Ficus grows roots, it has rather big leaves. I've heard that you can, on deciduous trees, strip the leaves in early summer, and then a second group of smaller leaves will grow in their place. My 3 questions are:

1. Can this be done with Ficus? I know that if leaves are stripped off, they will grow back eventually, but will the ones that grow back be smaller?

2. Will the leaves grow back in the same place? Or will they sprout up in different places?

3. How long should it take the leaves of a Ficus to grow back?
