Penjing For The Plant Sale

During the Fresno Bonsai society show this April, I will have the opportunity to move out some stock that is sitting around and taking up space. Leave alone the fact that it will never be anything good. You remember the Five for the future, the junipers that I had pruned for the windswept forest, well I repotted them to get rid of. I did not take pics of those. I wanted to keep some of the pots, since some of them were highly collectable.

The tree that I did do, turned out pretty well as a small penjing. I used a shimpaku that was the first one I ever bought. I bought it bare root from the Sorge Family at some mail order bonsai place in Texas. I have had it all this time. It was bought in 1984. When I bought it, it came in a sandwich bag, and the trunk was about the size of a match stick, and it cost 8.00 bucks. Talk about robbery. The trunk is nearly an inch now.

I decided that the public likes things gawdy, the more the better. I decided that I would use a stone, everyone like rocks right. Then I decided I would throw in some grasses, maybe some blueye grass, and some mondo grass and moss.
I pruned and shaped the tree to look as Chinese as I could. I wanted the cliff style look. A little windswept, but very Penjing.

All I need now is a small pagoda glued to the cliff and I will be set. I'll look for that tomarrow. I think I have one somewhere here. I keep alot of mudmen around, you never can tell when Tony may drop by!
