Thanks everyone for the responds. I realize now, that I messed up by taking the tree out of the pot and flushed the roots.
I have re-potted it in Bonsai soil. I will wait and see what happens and spray it every so often. Hopefully it will survive. Still not sure what the residue on the outside of the pot is.
