This could be the issue, watering every few days. Watering should be done as the plant requires, water it well, might be a good idea to actually immerse the pot to make sure all the soil gets water, then let it drain off. Now keep an eye on the soil and water again as the soil dries to just some moisture present, then water again in a normal fashion from above. I say to soak it because sometimes when some soil components dry out it can be very difficult to rewet them, then you think you are watering well but the water is actually going down the sides and out the bottom of the pot.
