This is more of a raising thing.....if you see this happening on your Portulacaria afra, pull off the oversized leaf. That leaf is about 1/2 as big again as a "normal" leaf, and is also robbing the new branch of nutrients. Once you pull (I actually just twist so I don't pull the whole tip off) the oversized leaf, the little branch will grow faster.

This is a sign that I've been overwatering this plant-also note the long spindly internode between the large leaf and the next set of leaves. The internode after that (tip down) is more in scale. When I see the spindly growth, I know to cut back on the water.
