Thanks, Bill. So far, The foliage hasn't "escaped" from me. I'm still learning what I can get away with as far as pruning for shape without effecting vigor. Unlike other species, its difficult to let hinoki cypress take a year off from pruning, I guess. The tree continues to do well, so I'm not changing my approach. I suppose I will have a better idea about this in 4-5 years.
