I have decided to undertake a bonsai project. What I want to do is amass a large collection of trees with black or very dark red/green foliage.
Here is where I ask for help:
I only know of a few trees with dark leaves and I was wondering if helpful people here could give suggestions of trees with dark foliage.
Ones I already know of are:
- Purple leafed Birch (own) (is this aka Black birch?)
- After Dark (Australian native, Agonis flexuosa. Plan to buy in near future)
- Cherry plum (own)

What I'm unsure of:
- I think there is another Birch/Alder behind my property with dark leaves. Will look into that.
- An ash tree around here has maroon leaves. Hard to get but.

But thats the extent of my knowledge. Anyone got anything to add to the list?
