Hi Kyle. Actually there are some pretty knowledgeable Bonsai people in South Africa. I'm just a beginner myself but recently joined a club, and some of the people there are totally amazing. It all depends in what part of SA you are located, but I'm sure you can find someone to help you out.

The flower you refer to as a Christmas Rose is a Hydrangea. As far as I'm concerned those flowers are WAY to big for bonsai. I can't really work out what your others are, but there may be bonsai potential in some of those.

It may be worth going to a nursery to look for suitable starter material though - just do a search here for suitable species for beginners.
