Family tree

Hi all

My uncle gave me this tree yesterday, as he no longer has he time to care for it. He bought it from someone who described it as a ' Japanese patio pine'. I think it may be a JWP (P. parifolia), but it might not be. I haven't been able to look at the roots yet, but I doubt they are shallow or have been maintained, as with the rest of the tree.

So, for now I'm just pinching and feeding it to try and get it back into shape. I don't want to start working on it yet as I think it's too late in the year. It's also planted in a sandy soil, which doesn't drain too well, I'm tempted to repot but it may be a bad time. The candles are already beginning to extend, temperatures are around 11-14 Celcius.

Aside from some brown foliege (due to lack of light as it was placed against a hedge), it seems quite healthy. It's about a metre (3ft) high, and I found an 8inch base when I dug down into the soil after taking the 4th photo, although I didn't find any nebari.

1st photo = me and suki for scale.
2nd = 1 side
3rd = other side
4th = base
5th = removed some dead foliege and tidied it a bit
6th = close up of foliege

Hope you like it.
