Mine was pretty easy to care for during the winter months as British weather = A LOT of cloud, so it was fine on the windowsill with watering every second day. I think the problems I am having with mine are related to the repotting I done to it and the dramatic weather we're having here at the moment, we are going from Snow one week to brilliant sun the next with hail in between.

Not had any personal experience with those, although I would like to get hold of one as they look nice and colorful. Would also like to get hold of a Red Maple, but have heard they are hard to care for so I will hold off untill I get more experienced.
I do have an Acer Palmatum "bloodgood" which I bought a couple of days ago for £30. But its a full sized one not bonsai. Going to try either collecting and planting it's seeds or airlayering one if its branches to start a Bonsai from it.
