My Favorite Oak
I've posted this Coast Live Oak (quercus agrifolia) a few times in the past. This is the latest image made today after a major trim job.
This oak was collected in 1975 by Tosh Saburomaru, one of our favorite sensei. It was a sad time when Tosh passed on years ago.
I bought the oak from the estate sale of one of Tosh's students about 23-25 years ago. To give an idea of how much its grown: The pot it came in measures 12"x17"x4.5". The current pot is 19"x27"x5". Height of the tree from the pot rim is 33 inches.
This tree is an example of why you shouldn't give up on an oak for at least 2 years or more. About 10 or so years ago, it lost all it's foliage and appeared to be dead for about 3 years. I didn't give up, and I was rewarded by one new shoot popping out. Then more and more and more. It came back from the dead. I call it "quercus ressurectus"
