Im right in the middle. The modern Japanese Masters and their progeny mostly pull. But they pull at the right time of the year. Like Kc said timing and health is important.
If you are trying to clean up a tree now you are out of season and liable to end up with many new buds in your hands along with your third year needles.
So I think pull in late fall clean up, cut any other time. There you go to furthur convolute the bp anecdotal pool of knowledge...
