I will pray for the tree! Slow down people, give trees like this some respect. Very surprised to hear of someone working a pine so soon after collection. Normally you wait for at least 2 years to allow the tree to get used to potted culture and to put out some roots.

It sounds like he know what he is doing so it will probably be fine but why rush it?

Anyway good technique and photos!

Newt,

Believe me... the tree could not be in safer hands. And no one... could respect ancient trees more. Two years would be a waste of a year. Generally one year is enough... if it was collected by someone who knows what they are doing. Daniel gauges what he'll do by the reactions of the tree to it's treatment. If it is pushing growth vigorously, he'll be less concerned. He's very aware of their subtle signs and changes which tell him to proceed or not.

He wasn't in a rush... hence we only adjusted some of the overall structure, while leaving the foliage alone. But if you have worked on material of this caliber, you'll know that setting that structure is a slow process to get it to take... so time is of the essence.

Glad you liked the technique and photos.

Kindest regards,

Victrinia
