Ok so it looks like a unanimous answer - Pin Oak (Quercus palustris Muenchh). Thanks, I wish I could find an acorn as the picture is of a cutting that I gave up on. But I would love to grow one from an acorn. Hey kcpoole can I see a pic of your pin oak bonsai...it doesn't matter if it's in a "rough" period and not fully established. I always have a hard time finding pics of any oak bonsai on the net and in publications, so I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
