1. Yes. I prune my tridents all growing season. I keep watch on the weather though. Hot and dry weather is a bad time to cut.

2. It depends on the amount of root pruning you plan to do. If leaves are still opening I will still repot and prune if the tree is strong. If leaves are open I will defoliate then repot and do light root work. Just watch the weather and temper your efforts.
