Having a little selective memory perhaps?
To name a few, the following artists would probably disagree that neither Pollack or Rothko (working with Gottlieb) to develop “his” style admittedly derived from “primitive art” were very innovative:
Mark Tobey “Threading Light” (1942). Piet Mondrian, “Broadway Boogie Woogie” (1942). Irene Rice Pereira “Shadows With Painting (1940). Ad Reinhardt “Newspaper Collage” (1940). Andre Masson “Pasiphae” (1945).
