Back budding doesn't happen on Hinoki. The area immediately around and in the foliage pads are what you will have to work with. So designing this tree will be a bit of a challenge, not impossible, but your going to have to put your thinking cap on. Laying foliage pads in a layered effect (kind of like the 80's boy band hair cuts)
will be the best approach for a fuller effect. I as well am not crazy about the jin and think with it gone it would be a much better image. Good Luck
