The species is a Ligustrum/privet. You may try scratching a little bark back and checking the cambium for a moist green look. If you don't find moist green under the bark skin it is toasted.

Also give us the history of the tree, how long have you had it, where do you keep it etc.. . This will help us at least figure out where you went wrong. As far as saving it an evenly moist soil, good light and constant tempature avove 65f will help if it is still alive.
