Adding to Mcspeed, depending on the bonsai it may need more/less acidic soil and so the proper fertilizer needs to be selected. For my acid-lovers, I like using Miracid. You can find this pretty much anywhere. But yes, check what ratio of NPK your plant needs. If you want to get really specific, bonsai need different levels of NPK @ different seasons. I have a book that explains this well. It's either called "Bonsai School" or "Bonsai Workshop," I'm not sure which one...
