Rooting Hormones for Japanese Maples

I have a large Japanese Red Maple Dissectum (One of the laceleaf types) that I will be attempting to air-layer and take some cuttings this spring.

I have read some threads about the difficulty of propagating the Dissectums in particular.

That said, my thoughts are to try out the Rootcubes with one of the higher strength Hormex powders. Their site calls for #8, but I am thinking trying the #16, #30 and/or #45 to be safe.

Anyone had any experience with propagating the Dissectums? What rooting hormone did you use? Success rates?

Thanks.
Ron
