hey scoot i did these air layers in the last month of spring (november) have got roots and will cut them off end of this month and and put the tree, collander and all straight into a bigger pot of soil until winter/spring when i will have a gease at the roots.
let me also say that there could be other possabilities discussed if you were to post a photo of your tree.
