What do you think about keeping the plant outdoors? Is it ok to keep the bonsai outdoors during freezing temps? Last night the temps dipped into the 20's. I placed my tree in my unheated greenhouse and mulched around the pot for root safety. Is this necessary?

Yes, I think it is necessary. Juniper is a hardy species even in a pot; but not to be treated the same way as an in-ground tree. Be sure to check in on it often and water if it becomes dry. Some even place ice cubes around the trunk, so when the temps. warm up, the tree gets a drink
