This really is an important thing, you gotta know what it is. Take it to a local garden center, any nursery pro can tell you what you've got. Or get us a photo,bro.
I concur with Tony, there is a good possibility it's a tree that normally will drop leaves in winter, but It would be nice to know for sure,eh?
