I have seen a few references to virtual bonsai in this forum. being relatively new to the online bonsai community and having searched the forum for an explanatory reference I thought I would ask exactly what it is.

Is it a result of a software package that one can obtain or is it simply photoshopping a photograph of an existing tree?

I know that POVRAY can simulate bonsai with certain macros, but it is a little random.
