Unfortuneately the given instruction for care are bad for a lot of trees, and it sounds like a juniper, which don't do very well at all inside, and if there is "dirt" in the pot, junipers will not do well( reads - probably die) if watered to saturation every day.

don't be discouraged this has happened to a lot of people, if you can put up some pics, or can you ID the trees, and give more detail about them (ie soil type, more description of the bad needles) you might get some better info..
