Moss will turn yellow and brown indoors unless you keep up the humidity with a lot of misting, not just daily but more like hourly. Typically a house is dry in winter from the furnace running. It will do better in the garage but will still go yellow without the misting. Either way it should come back in spring.

I'd suggest that you remove it and grow the moss outside for the winter, because when it dries it will slow down the air and water from getting to the roots of the trees.
