Just a thought. If you placed the tree outside on a window sill the sun may be reflecting off of the glass of the window like a magnifying glass. This may be scorching the leaves with sunlight a little more intense than the tree is used to.

I actually have a couple of brown patches in my yard from where the sun reflects off of my back windows. At first, I couldn't figure out why the brown patch was almost a perfect rectangle until I stepped outside one sunny morning and saw the sun reflecting onto the grass exactly where the brown patch was...

You may want to move it away from the window sill and place it on a table or bench.
