Thanks Reppoter,
I'm not sure of the type (was a present) but think that it is a fig... and I've (hopefully) attached a picture of my bonsai.
On the winds - they can be quite high as I'm high up. I wasn't sure if I was killing my bonsai through lack of water, overwatering or the hot sun and winds were doing the job...
