Wet sandpaper

Wet sand paper is safe to use. Auto body finishers use a "wetsand" as a final finish before priming. Emory cloth is safe also. All this using the Four "O" grit which is extremely fine.
This is a commonly used method amongst bonsai people.
I would opt for this before any chemical use.
